Phnom Rong is based in the Angkor park area. It isn’t on any tour itineraries, that’s the benefit of travelling on two wheels! I just randomly came across it. If you are traveling to Angkor then you can either ask your tuk tuk driver to stop off there or take your own transport. Mopeds can be hired easily in Siem Reap and so can bicycles, a great way to get around if you are fit and healthy!

As far as I could tell it is one of the oldest temples in the area. Built in the 7th Century. There isn’t a lot left of it but it is still used, there were joysticks and candles there so it had obviously been used recently. It is believed to sit on a prehistoric sight that I don’t believe has ever ben excavated.

It is located to the north end of the West Baray. It still has a moat but it is filled with rice and long deteriorated but still noticeable. Some steps to the East are still in place which indicates the platform under the ground would still be in place.

The peace and tranquillity was a blessing. I had a seven day temple pass and it was the weekend so quite busy in the park. That’s why I thought I would go off track a bit and avoid all the people. How dare the Khmers come out and enjoy their own history!

If you want some solitude and a place to listen to your inner thoughts, this is a go to place. No one else around, a great place for meditation or just some peace. I lit a joystick and sat contemplatively for a good while, one of the most thought provoking places in the Angkor park. It had a good vibe and it added to my temple buzz! Not a place to miss.
